Dial 69 for in room massage…

Okay, I take back anything negative I may have said about the Novotel Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport earlier. I nearly died of laughter when I saw this in the hotel directory:

Novotel_Bangkok

If they weren’t closed right now I’d call to inquire about pricing…

    @DAX, Dial 69 for a massage. 69. SIXTY NINE! You don't think that's funny?

You really think the Americans created the sex industry in Thailand? REALLY?

There is a reason it is referred to as the world's oldest profession, and it sure as heck wasn't created by some juvenile country that still hasn't been through puberty....

@ Dax -- Respectfully, are you kidding me? I mean, you can over analyze this as much as you want. If you don't think that the extension for an in-room massage being the same as a sexual position for simultaneous oral sex is funny that's totally fine, I respect that.

But if you don't see how someone else can find that funny, and you think that something that does find it funny is automatically perpetuating...

But if you don't see how someone else can find that funny, and you think that something that does find it funny is automatically perpetuating a negative image of Thailand and is confused and repressed about their sexuality, then I don't know what to say.

I've been to Thailand over a dozen times, and it's one of my favorite places in the world. But I guess next time I should check with you to be sure something is allowed to be funny.

@Dax: Wrong buddy-boy. BKK was a whore house long before Americans came in droves. Ask the Brits or French back in the colonial days. Can't blame American's for that.

Dax pretty much killed the comments going forward... Way to go buddy...

"I kept looking at it trying to figure out what was funny about it. Guess some people still find grade school humor funny"

    Same here.

Thailand has a lot going for it as a travel destination, but if you ask an average American about it they generally assume it's just about sex, in large part because of childish posts like this that continue to perpetuate a negative image.

Even with as much progress as we've made American society still remains confused and repressed about sex in general. Well here's a nice thought to consider. The sex industry in Thailand was created in large part by the presence of the "anything goes" American military.

Like many other countries before and since, the arrival of the Americans was the precursor to a deteriorating reputation. First we show up, then we help screw things up, and then we mock you for being screwed up. What's funnier than that?

    *crickets*

@Paul. The song is a little more nuanced then that and it's not just about Chess. The part sung by the musical's company is about all the delights that BKK has to offer as a temptation to the chess player. Robert P is paraphrasing from that part of the song.

  11. Paul Guest

lol One night in Bangkok is not about sex or massages, it's about a game of chess. Everyone gets that one wrong.

@brian, pull that rod outta your arse and you'll find it funny. Unless you're unsure of what a 69 is- i wouldn't be surprised

  18. Santastico Diamond

Are you really staying at the Novotel in Bangkok? You are kidding, right?

  19. Andre Guest

All that's missing is italicizing the word massage.
