The Chase Freedom® is a no annual fee credit card that offers 5x points in rotating quarterly categories. You can earn the 5x points for up $1,500 in spend per quarter, meaning “maxing” out the bonuses each quarter you’d earn a total of 30,000 points per year.
Anyway, they do make you “opt in” to earning the bonuses each quarter, and registration just opened for their third quarter bonus categories, valid July 1 through September 30, 2013. These categories are as follows:
As far as this year’s bonus categories go, I’d say this is the weakest quarter, given that I suspect most of us don’t spend much money at Kohl’s or theme parks. That being said, the 5x points at gas stations is useful, and with a bit of work shouldn’t be tough to max out.
Each point can be redeemed for one cent cash back, though if you link it with a card that accrues Ultimate Rewards points (like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Ink Plus® Business Credit Card ), these can be used as “premium” Ultimate Rewards points and transferred to partner airlines and hotel programs. I really do need to apply for the Chase Freedom sometime soon as I still don’t have it — so many other great Chase offers out there.
