  1. They are mainly churches with 13=15th century artworks. You can just wander this region at will.

  2. There is at least one of the “houses” that is open to tour. IIRC, you have to climb a short ladder to enter it.

  3. Cappadocia, Turkey, as others have pointed out. There are actually cave hotels, where you spend the night in a very nicely appointed cave room carved into the side of a rock face.

  4. @JJ – I had a very musty experience in a Cappadocia “cave hotel” – damp and moldy. Before you book make sure to read the online reviews!
