American has just changed their policy on confirmed same day changes. Previously you could only make a same day flight change 12 hours in advance, while now it can be done 24 hours in advance. The fee to do so is still $75. I do wish American would waive the fee for Executive Platinum members, as both Delta and United waive those fees for their top tier elite members. Then again I guess American is so far ahead of the competition in terms of elite benefits for their top tier elites that they don’t really feel the need to.
For what it’s worth US Airways’ same day flight change fee is waived for all elite members, though the window isn’t as generous — you can only make a change to an earlier flight within six hours of departure. Still, I’d rather they adopt that policy than keep American’s current one.
But hey, moving the window from 12 hours to 24 hours is good news, so let’s leave it at that…
