Last week American unveiled a promotion offering bonus miles for travel to London in premium fare classes through January 31, 2013.
Well, it seems that Delta is matching to some extent, as they’re offering bonus miles for travel between the US and London for travel between October 1, 2012, and January 31, 2013. Much like American they’re offering 15,000 bonus SkyMiles after the first roundtrip, 35,000 bonus SkyMiles after the second roundtrip, and 50,000 bonus SkyMiles for each subsequent roundtrip, with no limit to the number of miles that can be earned.
The catch is that only fares booked in J, C, D, I, S, Y, B, and M fare classes qualify for the bonus. Those are the fare classes for paid business class and the three most expensive coach buckets.
So while this probably isn’t “mileage runnable,” it’s a nice bonus if you were planning on flying business class between the US and London anyway.
Registration is required prior to travel, and only flights booked on or after October 1 are eligible for the bonus.
I think the American offer is still a bit better since all European destinations are eligible and you can also fly British Airways and Iberia, not to mention the fact that AAdvantage miles are much more valuable than SkyMiles.
