Win 50,000 Starpoints courtesy of the Starwood American Express!

In the interest of full disclosure, One Mile At A Time earns a referral bonus for anyone that’s approved through some of the below links. These are the best publicly available offers that we have found for each card. Please check out our advertiser policy for further details about the partners we work with. Thanks for your support!

UPDATE: This promotion is over and the sign-up bonus has changed. You can find the best current offers here.

Links for cards (please note these are my referral links, which are for the best available offers):

Today the Starwood American Express is bringing back an increased sign-up bonus which is only valid through September 4, 2012. Through this offer you can earn 10,000 Starpoints after the first purchase, and an additional 20,000 Starpoints after spending $5,000 within six months, when you apply for either the Starwood American Express Personal Card or Starwood American Express Business Card.

What we’re giving away:

The Starwood American Express is sponsoring a giveaway for 50,000 Starpoints to one lucky winner.

How to enter:

I’m happy to announce that you can enter this giveaway through both Twitter and the blog, and you’re allowed one entry per method per day:

To enter on Twitter:

1. Follow @OneMileataTime on Twitter.

2. Tweet which Starwood hotel you would redeem 30,000 Starpoints at (the number of points you’d get through the increased sign-up bonus), and how many free nights you could get using those points. Be sure you include both @OneMileataTime and the hashtag #SPGAMEX in the Tweet

3. You can Tweet me once per calendar day (let’s define that as 12:00AM EDT till 11:59PM EDT), and the contest will run through 11:59PM EDT on Tuesday, August 21.

For example, an eligible Tweet would be:

@OneMileataTime I’d spend 12 nights at Le Meridien Chiang Rai #SPGAMEX

To enter on the blog:

1. Go to the official blog entry post (which is NOT this post), which can be found here.

2. Comment on which Starwood hotel you would redeem 30,000 Starpoints at (the number of points you’d get through the increased sign-up bonus), and how many free nights you could get using those points.

3. You can comment once per calendar day (let’s define that as 12:00AM EDT till 11:59PM EDT), and the contest will run through 11:59PM EDT on Tuesday, August 21.

For example, an eligible post would be:

I’d spend 12 nights at Le Meridien Chiang Rai

Basic terms:

While I won’t post the full four pages of terms and conditions, the basics are that you have to be at least 18 years old and have an SPG account to be eligible to win. The winner will also have to complete a W9 (ARV of prize is $1,250). If anyone needs any clarification, feel free to ask below in the comments section or email me.

Picking a winner:

A winner will be picked at random within a week of the end of the giveaway. Each eligible Tweet counts as one entry, so the more days you enter, the better your chance of winning. If my math is right you can enter up to 14 times.

Good luck, and if you have any questions about the Starwood American Express or this giveaway please let me know!

Comments

  1. @ Brian — Canadians are eligible for the 50K point giveaway, though not the credit card sign-up bonus.

  2. Is the 50k point give-away also available to people outside North America if I have an SPG account? (As for the credit card sign-up bonus, I will just continue to be outrageously jealous of you folks in the States and the amazing offers you have available.)

  3. Links are not working.

This offer is no longer available.

If you’d still like to apply for an American Express card, click here

  4. @ Mike @ JetAway — Hmm, AmEx sometimes has screwy links. Do you mind trying to clear your cookies or trying a different browser, as it’s working fine for me?

I’d appreciate if anyone else could let me know if they’re having the same issue.

    Sorry about that!

  5. The links aren’t working for me either. I’ve tried different browsers, cleared cookies, cleared the cache, all no-go. Maybe they’re not live yet?

  6. @ Faceless Bureaucrat — Ah, I see now, it looks like the landing page loads but the application page delivers the error. I suspect the offer just isn’t live yet, though I’ll do some research. Sorry about that!

  7. I’d redeem this way:

    Free Nights Calculation:

    Hotel: Le Méridien Dead Sea
    Category 1
    Dates: Nov 1 – Nov 8 & Nov 8 – Nov 16 (15 Nights)

    Dates & Lowest Available Rate
    Nov 1 – Nov 8: $263/Night + 16% Tax = $305.08/night = $2135.56
    Nov 8 – Nov 16: $263/Night + 16% Tax = $305.08/night = $2440.64

Dates & Average Points Needed for Free Night
    Nov 1 – Nov 8: 2000 Starpoints Needed Per Night = 14,000 Points Needed
    Nov 8 – Nov 16: 2000 Starpoints Needed Per Night = 16,000 Points Needed

Total Lowest Available Rate Cost + Taxes = $4576.20
    Number of Points Needed (2000/avg) = 30,000

Dollar Value Per Point: (4576.20/30000) = $0.15254 or 15.254 cents PER POINT

  8. Does the business card count for 2 stays and 5 nights like the personal card? It does not say in the T&C.

  9. Lucky- it looks like the links are not working yet. I am getting “We apologize that the offer you are looking for may no longer be available. Click here to learn more and apply for the current offer. “. Btw, I am asked to log in with my current account which I do as I have an Amex Costco card. So is it a pre-requisite to have an Amex card before one could apply for this? Thanks.

  10. @ BravoNovember — Sorry about that, you’re absolutely correct, the links aren’t live just yet. While you can log-in to your AmEx account, I wouldn’t do so. It’ll be linked after you’re approved, and I think it’s better to have a “fresh” application not linked to your existing cards to be sure you get the right bonus.

  11. Still no luck for me. The business card link seems to be working but not the personal card. Is it just me? 🙂

  12. @ BravoNovember — Grrr, you’re right, thanks for your patience. They promised it would be up by noon eastern, so the clock is ticking. Will post when I see the personal app working as well.

  13. Lucky,

Seems like the application link keeps on going up and down!! The business link failed part way through. Perhaps too many people trying? I’m going to redo the application later this afternoon.

  14. @ Nhan — Sorry about that! AmEx links are screwy to begin with, and I suspect the amount of traffic they’re getting isn’t helping either.

Working for me as of now, though waiting won’t hurt either.

Let me know if I can do anything to help!

  15. The personal card link works now. Thanks.

I’d probably use it for 2 or more nights at The Westin in Maui.

  16. Mine came back “systems not responding-try again later.” With all of the travel bloggers posting the same links at the same time AmEx is probably in overload. I’ll try again in a couple of days using Lucky’s links.

  17. I’d use it for one week at the Four Points in Culver City for guests visiting in November and still have 2000 points available for a points + cash stay.

  18. Did I mention 1 night at the St. Regis Deer Valley?

Btw….used your referral link for my SPG signup!!!

  19. 2 Nights at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, Bali and 2 Nights at the Royal Orchid Sheraton on my way there!
