It’s a small, small world…

Quick — what’s the name of Singapore’s best flight attendant? Okay, if you’ve been reading my blog for more than a week I’ve probably sufficiently shoved the answer down your throat. Yes, I’m talking about Wong Chin, who words simply can’t do justice. I flew with her from Singapore to Tokyo Narita a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, I have a nasty cold right now, which is rare, since I almost never get sick. I’ve probably slept for 40 of the past 48 hours, so unless I have reason to believe otherwise I assume that everything is a dream and not reality. I did nearly fall out of my bed this morning when I had an email from Wong Chin in my inbox.

So just how small of a world do we live in?

Now let’s see if I can find a way to get on another one of her flights.

Comments

  1. I think it is clear that this goes beyond good service. This sounds like a crush to me….

  2. Awesome man! Love is in the air … Good luck Lucky… perhaps becoming her partner would get you free premium SQ flights without using any miles – how about that! Get your girl, get your flights and fly with her on the flight and she brings wide smile on your face! IT CANNOT GET ANY BETTER!!! GO AHEAD 🙂 (sorry for screaming but I am excited for you to see where this goes :)).

  3. And now would you clarify if her last name is May or Mei or Wong or something else, resting that part of the debate :)?

  4. We do all realize that everything posted here is ending up on her sister’s Facebook wall, right?

I’m not sure that getting on another of her flights is the way to go. Next time instead of an empty FC cabin, it could be full. Or worse, the First Lady of Zimbabwe and entourage might there again. Not to mention a supervisor who may have been told of your blog posts.

Since we are all reading between the lines here, and know this isn’t just about thanking her for excellent in flight service, meeting her when she is on duty probably isn’t the best way to get to know each other better.

She was on your New York to Frankfurt flight. And now you have her email address. So why not suggest that the next time she flies thru New York, you would like to take her out to dinner….

  5. More a reflection of how diverse your readership is. You’ve gone BIG. Wanna sign my boarding pass?

  6. I like how some people here seem to be assuming you have some romantic interest in her. You’ve made it clear in the other posts that this is not the case. It would be very sad if anyone actually pursued a flight attendant romantically!

  7. It is fate.

It is time to match schedules and ask for a date.

Think about what kind of flowers she like.

    And good luck. 😀

  8. @BrewerSEA – You make one very good point in the fact that Lucky has made it clear that he has no romantic interest in her. I guess that people choose to interpret things in the way they want to. I find people’s comments amusing.

But you also make a not so good point…my wife, and the love of my life, is a flight attendant. And guess how we met? I’m now reevaluating my entire life because I guess I’m a sad case….

  9. @phraktur

I’m glad it worked out for you, and I am curious to hear the story of how you met. I shouldn’t be so quick to judge. 🙂

  10. totally unrealistic, but wouldn’t it be great if you could post her flight schedules like Captain Denny. I always enjoy being able to experience wonderful cabin crews.

  11. No offense to lucky’s feeling.

I am not asking lucky to get lucky.

But look at this way – I don’t see how an extreme wonderful experience can lead to lucky asking for contact. So something may have happened. But who knows and cares? As soon as Wong Chin and lucky is happy, this is what matters.

BTW – Singapore girls (not only the pne from SQ) are fantastic…:D

  12. @BrewerSEA: Really? “It would be very sad if anyone actually pursued a flight attendant romantically!” That wasn’t sarcasm?

If you are under 18, then you are excused. But some years ago, before the unions and staffing cutbacks resulted in FAs with an average age which equals their waist size {52 ?}, the number two fantasy for a girlfriend, right after Playboy Playmate, was FA. Yes, FA. If you’ve been mainly flying domestic airlines lately, I can understand why you don’t understand.

And why a FA should not be a candidate for a date, a girlfriend, a wife, a mother of your children, totally escapes me. A far better choice than Playmate, if you ask me.

For the hopelessly out of touch, let me explain how the birds/bees thing works. If you are really, really lucky {unintended pun} you run into someone and there is instant chemistry and almost unbearable attraction.

If you have never seen West Side Story, you can get it from Netflix:

“The most beautiful sound I ever heard. All the beautiful sounds of the world in a single word. WongChin, I just met a girl named WongChin.
And suddenly that name will never be the same to me WongChin.
Say it loud and there’s music playing. Say it soft and it’s almost like praying. WongChin. I’ll never stop saying WongChin. The most beautiful sound I ever heard WongChin”

Then if you are very unlucky, she turns out to be a married drug addict. But if you are Truly Very Lucky, she turns out to be a model Singapore FA, and is equally attracted to you. In which case, if you don’t pursue this Gift From the Universe, you are a total fool, and will end up regretting it the rest of your life….

Yes, had she been merely a typical robotic FA, just doing her job, and Lucky did stalk her, that would be sad. But we already know that’s not the case. From the dancing on the clouds feeling she gave him, to the goodbye line of “hope to hear from you soon”, to the email she sent him, this is clearly two sided.

Oh, and it’s just too cute that her “sister” just happened to come across Lucky’s blog. Does your typical Singapore young woman spend her free time reading US travel hacking blogs for the pure entertainment value?

She had his name from the flight list, and waited for him to contact her with the number she gave him. When he didn’t call her, she then googled him, and saw this blog. Finding out he’d lost her phone number, she and emailed him.

Read over this post: “How to get a flight attendant’s contact information after the fact?” along with all of the comments. And realize she read all of that before she emailed him. And them try to tell me that Lucky is “stalking” her.

She knows where he stands, and goes way out of her way to tell him how to contact her. Sad? Sad? Not finding out if there is more to this than infatuation is what would be really sad……

Lucky, you know what to do, if you have the cojones for it. But if you don’t, let her go, so she can find someone who does….

  13. @ Robert H. – LOL. Wow, you’ve created an entire fantasy.
    @Ken Y. – So true 🙂

  14. @Coutureguy:

People of little intellect take pleasure in one sentence put downs with ambigious terms like “fantasy” and “so oblivious”. But can’t be bothered to actually, you know, explain what that means.

Then they call themselves metrosexual names like Coutreguy, just to let us all know how “cool” they are…..

According to Wikipedia, “Coutre means dressmaking, sewing, or needlework” So, Mr Dressmaker, care to expound on the parts of my post that are clearly “fantasy”?

For instance how Wong Chin’s “sister” accidently found Lucky’s blog? And why after reading it and all of the comments about his obvious “crush” on her, she still emailed him?

My hope for you is, one day, you will find your Heart….

  15. @Robert Hanson – +1

It is the reality. How difficult it is for a typical passenger to ask for contact of FA? I guess a lot of you know and have hand-on experience(that’s why we gave out our business cards instead :D).

Not to overthink the entire issue, if Wong Chin does not want to leave traces for lucky to contact her, she can simply leave a message here (and using a fake email). She chooses to email lucky directly instead. As I said before, are you sure there is no spark between Wong Chin and lucky?

However – it all depends on how lucky wants to do (as I believe they have age gaps).

  16. @ Robert H.- Hmmmm. Sensitive much? Let me clear up a few things… First, my comment about a “fantasy” was tongue-in-cheek. You created an entire scenario about what happened with Wong Chin after the flight, including what she did before emailing him, etc. (things that we could imagine or surmise, but couldn’t possibly know for sure.) It reminded me of what’s often portrayed on TV shows, in movies, etc. in this type of situation and kind of made me smile. That’s what I meant by fantasy. It was not meant as a “put down” at all, so you got offended for nothing.

“People of little intellect…” LOL!!! Now that’s one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time! I actually did laugh out loud when I read that.

Next, it’s spelled “couture.” It’s a French word that means “fashion.” I speak French, and my handle has to do with what I used to do for work, therefore Coutureguy. It has nothing to do with how cool I or anyone else thinks I am. Personally, I couldn’t care less about that.

Hopefully I’ve cleared up your misconceptions. Life’s too short to be uptight, especially over something on the internet from someone that you don’t even know. Lighten up.

  17. Gay or not (and it *really doesn’t matter* and I for one *really don’t care*), it would just be somehow poetically correct for Lucky to marry a flight attendant.
