Possible 50,000 Membership Rewards points for adding authorized users

This is definitely a case of “your mileage may vary,” but American Express is apparently offering Premier Rewards Gold cardholders and Platinum cardholders 10,000 Membership Rewards points per authorized user added, up to five. The offer code for this promotion is 5721.

You’ll want to call up Membership Rewards at 800-AXP-EARN, reference the promotion code above, and  mention you heard that was a promotion to earn 10,000 Membership Rewards points for each new authorized user.

This offer should apply even to authorized users added in the past, as I was able to have them credit me the points for users added in the past.

Again, there’s no guarantee this will work, though it’s definitely worth a shot. It might take several phone calls and at the end of the day it might be targeted, so don’t get angry if it doesn’t work. But it is working for a lot of people on FlyerTalk, as reported in this thread. 50,000 points is easily worth $1,000, so well worth the effort.

Good luck!

  1. Yep I got 100k for 2 accounts and credit for the 2 users on my biz account. A sweet 100k MR points and now I will have 3 trips on LT first class next year and after. How sweet!

  2. So far people are getting the bonus code added to almost any card that earns MR. At least on 2nd call. Strangely they are not insisting on SS #’s which is usually a big deal with AmEx and I assume the cards won’t be issued until they have the SS#.

  3. I called this morning, and it was a bit cumbersome (went back & forth with agent before I was transferred to Customer Service)

    I added 2 additional cardholders for my AMEX PRG, asked the agent to confirm the promo ID was in my account notes, and then went online and added another 3 additional cardholders (SSN not required).

    I also added 2 additional cardholders on my AMEX Platinum, but given the option to add them as Gold instead of Platinum – no charge, and still qualify for the promo (MR points post in 6-8 weeks after first purchase. Did that.

    I’m thinking about adding another 3 cardholders to my AMEX Platinum for the $175 fee so my in-laws + wife can get the card benefits (assuming cardholders also get the benefits?)

    100k MR for $220 => $175 (3 additional Plat cardholders) + $45 (5 additional PR cardholders) – good deal.

  4. @ Dan — Not on the Premier Rewards Gold card, for up to five users. On the Platinum card you can add three users for $175, as far as I know.

  5. Got the promo added to my account. I asked how many it was good for and was told there wasn’t a limit on the in the terms of the promo that the agent saw. Also, I was told it would take 6-8 weeks for the points to show up.
