Through March 31, 2011, Delta is offering a 30% transfer bonus for all points transferred from American Express Membership Rewards.
That’s definitely not as good as the 50% transfer bonus and 25,000 elite qualifying miles they offered in November, or the even the 40% transfer bonus they offered in December, though I still feel like these bonuses are always worth mentioning.
While Delta SkyMiles aren’t the most valuable currency out there, they can be quite valuable in certain cases. For example, award space on Air France in business class is quite excellent on the A380 flying out of Washington Dulles, even over the summer months. And off season, it’s not that hard to find a transatlantic award to Europe. Also, 150,000 miles for V Australia business class isn’t a half bad deal either, given that they have pretty good availability.
But the frustration is always that the bonus points only post 4-6 weeks after the transfer occurs. If I could transfer 77,000 miles and immediately have 100,000 SkyMiles show up in my account, that might not be a bad deal, assuming the desired award availability is there. However, it’s not quite as good of a deal if you have to transfer 100,000 Membership Rewards points, book a ticket for 100,000 SkyMiles immediately, and then have 30,000 miles post a few weeks later.
