30% off economy shorthaul awards on United within US and Canada

Hardly the most exciting promotion of all times, but for travel through January 7, 2011 that’s booked by August 31, United is offering 30% off economy awards with distance of 700 miles or less within the US and Canada. This is exclusively for travel on United metal that’s booked at least a week prior to departure. This promotion applies to saver and standard awards, either roundtrip or one way.

If you absolutely need to fly a short distance, this might just be a great deal, since some of United’s most expensive fares are on their shortest flights. But in general you should try to avoid redeeming miles for domestic travel.

  1. You fail to mention that it’s for short haul flights (or at least call out the limitation).

  2. I agree with bmvaughn. This is a terrible post, there’s no mention of the discount being only applicable to destinations which are 700 miles or less from the departure point.

  3. Guys, I’m a total moron, my apologies. Knew that was the case, but wrote this at 6AM and was totally out of it. Post is corrected now. Sorry again!

  4. Perfect timing for me. I needed a one-way ticket SEA-SFO for week after next and the saver award was a decent value. (I was originally ticketed SEA-PDX-SFO until the nonstop opened up.) It probably would have been an even better value if I was coming from a dinky UX monopoly station like LMT.
