Your chance to fly Singapore’s new business class product using miles

As much as I love Singapore Airlines, they really do frustrate me. When they rolled out their fantastic new first and business class products they “blocked” those seats from award inventory, meaning you couldn’t get an award seat with them unless you have miles in their frequent flyer program and are willing to pay basically double the “saver” rate. Then they started blocking premium cabin award seats on almost all of their flights, even the old configuration ones.

Well, here’s your opportunity to fly their new business class product, and it appears to be a glitch. Singapore will be launching service between Munich and Singapore soon on their 777-300ER aircraft, and there’s plenty of business class award inventory from summer onwards.

What makes this an obvious glitch is that those booking through partner airlines are able to use their miles for business class, while the availability doesn’t show up to Singapore’s own frequent flyers.

So if you want to try their incredible business class product, this would be a great opportunity. Act fast!

  1. Good call, Ben. I used UA miles for this route (in C) for a trip booked for August 2010, with my booking done about three weeks ago. Almost everyday had award C availability on this route.

  2. I have been pretty successful using Virgin Atlantic miles to fly SQ old F on the 747 from LAX to NRT last year. Did two trips, one in summer and one in November. Tried with UA miles first and couldn’t even get an award in Y.

  3. Knowing how SQ works, it wouldn’t surprise me if it decides not to honor award booking through partners’ FFP.

Perhaps, there is really not enough premium cabin demand for this route. Who knows?

  4. I have not done an award booking for myself before so unsure where to start. Would this work with UA miles ex SYD to SIN-MUC ? Mini DG wants to do French exchange in 2011 so that might be a nice use of our UA miles. Thanks in advance for any good tips of where to start. DG 🙂
