Kudos to the Westin Charlotte!

Remember how the Westin Charlotte was offering 500 Starwood points to anyone that became a fan of them on Facebook? Well, kudos to them, because the points actually posted. The promotion was only advertised on the in-room TV’s, although there was no restriction stating it was only for hotel guests. As a result about 500 FlyerTalkers became fans on Facebook one evening, and the next morning they closed the promotion.

Either way, the Westin Charlotte deserves some props for honoring this promotion. Ultimately it was the right thing to do, and I’d certainly consider staying there if I were ever in Charlotte, despite not being a Starwood kind of guy. I am a sucker for Heavenly Beds, though…. ahhhh…. zzzzz….

  1. Woohoo! Mine have posted as well.

MAJOR props to the Westin Charlotte, especially considering that 500 points is more than what an SPG “nobody” would receive for completing an actual stay (without bonuses/promos).

  2. “… not being a Starwood kind of guy”? Maybe this is worth a new topic in itself, but could you possibly expound on that comment. I thought SPG to be one of the most favorable programs.

  3. @ speedy — To be clear, I think the SPG credit card is GREAT, especially for airline transfers, but in terms of the actual program as far as hotel stays go, including elite status, I’m not a huge fan of Starwood. I’d be happy to make a separate post on that (along with my overall hotel “viewpoint” as of now) if you’re interested.

The world is waiting with bated breath for your anointment of the hotel program of choice. As a potential SPG Platinum for 2010 with the double stays, I’d more than value your insight. I am also lined up for a stay at the IC Bali later this year partly based on your review from a year or so ago, but am a lowly Ambassador. Hyatt looks promising right now, especially with the “Next Big Thing”. I am sure your readers would love a quick primer for hotel programs.

  5. +1. I am surprised/thankful that the points posted. The next time I am in the CLT area, I really will give the Westin a close look. Honestly, they MADE me a fan. 🙂

  6. +1. I now have 500 points in my SPG account 😀 (Sorry, I normally do the airline direct-deposit thing, so actual SPG points feel strange to me.)
