Why the torture?!?!

Why the torture?!?!

You know, I’m starting to think it’s time to give up and just start flying US airlines internationally. Why? The air nozzles! I am sick and tired of flying top notch airlines and feeling like I’m in a sauna. Can someone please explain to me WHY non-US airlines typically don’t have individual air nozzles at seats? I was trying to sleep on my Swiss flight, but it was just too damn hot. If you’re not going to have air nozzles, at least make the cabin a bit colder. People can always dress in layers and use blankets, but there is only so much we can take off without getting in trouble.

So why don’t they have air nozzles? Can they not afford them (of course they can), do they think we don’t value them, or do they just want to torture us?

As I arrived in Zurich and walked to the lounge, I was further disappointed that the lounge was also hot as all heck. Then I finally got to the remote gate, where it was even hotter. I was steaming by that point (no pun intended).

I was so happy to get on the (crappy regional configuration) A321 to London for one reason: air nozzles!

    Two thoughts:
-- You're right, I should have asked them to make the cabin a bit cooler. My mistake.
-- It's worth pointing out that I'm not the type of person that likes my cup full of ice (I actually don't typically have ice in my drinks), and I don't turn AC to the max. It was just plain uncomfortable, and I'm often the one that's too cold in the US....

I agree with all the comments above but we just flew NRT-OKA via ANA on Saturday. It was a 747 and it was a sauna! It made a 2 1/2 hour flight seem like a six hour flight! While at the Intercontinental in Tokyo the hallways and elevators were very warm. The sttings in the room were also set to 16 degrees Celcius.

Unrelated question... how do you get to the lounges at ZRH on a business class non-schengen to non-schengen connection? I asked the LX staff at ZRH and they told me that there wasn't a lounge in my departure area (the lower E gates) and that getting to a lounge would be "complicated". Since my connection time was just one hour I headed straight to the gate. Their website http://www.swiss.com/web/EN/services/airport/Pages/zurich_lounges.aspx for some reason does not give...

In your international travel, have you noticed that many other countries aren't as obsessed about filling a cup with ice cubes before pouring in a few floz of coke? Or that stores/restaurants in the summer aren't air-conditioned to a level that forces you to bring in a sweater? I really hate the temperature setting at most Starbucks here in CA in the summer. It's unpleasantly cold and drives me out of the store. Maybe they...

So maybe, just maybe other countries (or rather people from those countries) don't feel the need to cool themselves to the degree that you do.

Every time (and I do mean every time) I've flown International F on non-US carriers, especially if I have the cabin to myself, when I've asked for the temp to be turned down, they do it. There's no reason they shouldn't have turned the heat down for you on your flight.

Really? LH complied? They always say "okay, okay" and then don't change jack for me.

LX, on the other hand, will turn it down upon request - though never enough.

Make sure TK keeps it bitterly cold.

Flying as one of 5 pax in F on an LH A 340, I asked for them to turn the cabin temp down, and they complied.

Why didn't you ask the F attendant to lower the temp in the cabin? No other passengers to complain, since you were the only one in F.

I think we Americans tend to be less tolerant to heat. We want air conditioner on 24/7, we can't stand humidity, we want A/C turned to MAX at shopping malls, airports, restaurants etc.... If you've been to Narita Airport, you know they set A/C to 27 deg C. If you've stayed at a hotel in Europe, you know chances are they do not have A/C. I know how you feel Lucky, but we need to be more tolerant to heat.
