While Singapore Airlines is relatively stingy when it comes to first class award seats, I don’t really blame them. They have a great product, after all. Unfortunately it’s getting tougher and tougher since so many routes are being taken over by the 777-300ER and A380, on which Singapore Airlines isn’t releasing any first or business class award seats.
At least we could always count on them releasing first and business class award seats a few days out. Without exception, they typically opened up award space in first class on SQ25 (JFK-FRA-SIN) and SQ11 (LAX-NRT-SIN) within four days of departure as long as there was space. This is especially nice when you’re top tier with an airline and change fees are waived, meaning you could book another airline and switch to Singapore last minute.
Unfortunately as of a few days, Singapore Airlines doesn’t do that anymore. Scratch that, I don’t see any award seats at all available from the US, be it one day out or 11 months out, at least when it comes to Star Alliance availability. At the same time they’re still releasing the seats through KrisFlyer, but that’s not all that much help to most of us.
Let’s hope this is a glitch and not an intentional move on the part of Singapore, although I can’t say that it’d surprise me.
