Photo #77

It’s time for a reader photo. Thanks to Todd for sending in this picture. We’ll make this one a bit tougher, so it’s a two-part question: what aircraft was this photo taken from and where was Todd when he took this photo (geographically)?

Correct Answer: Singapore Airlines A380 near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border
Winner: Mike

If you’d like your photo featured, please email it to me at onemileatatime@hotmail.com, along with the correct answer.

  1. I’m going with Antartica. I think Lan has a flight that flys from Chile to Antartica and back as a sightseeing trip

  2. Ok, since no one else has said the absolute obvious ( 😛 ), it’s an A380. That does narrow the possible routes down somewhat, but not terribly. I’ll guess ‘somewhere far North’. Yes, indeed.

  3. Yes, ua_to_ord is correct, those are A380 engines. More specifically, they look like Trent 900 Rolls Royce engines. It looks like there are only two airlines that have the A380 outfitted with these engines: Qantas and Singapore. I choose Singapore because I’ve actually flown the A380 from LHR to SYD … and this looks awfully close to what I saw on this route. It’s pretty much impossible to pinpoint where Todd is physically based on this picture (does 30,000+ feet count??), but I am going to say somewhere in the Middle East.

  4. Good job on the A380 guess, ua_to_ord. I can’t believe it took that long!

Good job, Mike! You’re right, but does anyone want to guess what border Todd is flying over in this picture?
