Happy Holidays to all! For those frequent travelers that are spending the holidays at home, I hope you have the chance to relax in your own living room for once and enjoy something other than airplane food. May you turn on all the electronic devices under 18,000 feet that your heart desires, carry as many bags around your house as you’d like, and use the lavatory whenever you want to. To those traveling, may your travels be safe, and to quote Richard Quest, profitable (be it intellectually, financially, socially, culturally, or whatever).
I’m happy to be spending the holidays at home. I had to pick up my brother at the airport a few days ago, and what a disaster it was! As much as I love the airport atmosphere, I go absolutely bonkers with the nonstop Christmas music and six year olds running around as if the airport is a playground, not to mention the overcrowding and painful security lines.
I’ve had an incredible year, filled with more travel and miles/points than ever before. I’ve seen some incredible new countries, made friends all over the world (both in the air and on the ground), and have really enjoyed sharing my experiences via this blog.
Expect some “enhancements” in 2009 at One Mile at a Time…. no silly, not those kinds of enhancements. I’m going to go back to the basics, in addition to writing about the stuff I already cover. Lots of times I assume a bit too much, so in 2009 I’ll step back and try to explain some of the more basic stuff, at least things that might seem basic to those of us that fly almost weekly and spend hours a day thinking about travel. I realize many people don’t know about status matches, the ANA tool, million miler status, etc., so I’ll try to explain some of the more basic stuff in detail.
In the meantime, thanks so much to those that have made my first year of blogging so rewarding. As always I love hearing from readers, be it via the comments section of each post, via email, or via FlyerTalk. If you ever have any questions, suggestions, or would like clarification, just let me know and I’ll do my best to help. I’m happy to report that I’m not here primarily for your safety. 😉

She's going to kill me when she finds out we're flying through SFO, SEA, and DEN to get to SJU. My first 2009 trip (1/6) takes me west to Seattle to play in the US Olympic Playdowns in curling. Now I wouldn't fly off to Vegas to put a wager on our team. Even if they had wagering on curling we'd be included as part of the Field. I don't even think they'd consider us a long shot to make the second round but we'll give it a try. Safe Travels
