First of all, my apologies for the lack of posts over the weekend. I caught a nasty cold late last week, so I spent most of the weekend sleeping. I’ve almost recovered, so should be back to posting more frequently.
Now, on to more important things. As most of you probably already know, Delta seems to have discontinued their 150% bonus miles promotion. What the hell was Delta thinking with this promotion to begin with? Many of us go by the saying “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,” but that doesn’t seem to be the case with Delta. They’ve had great promos whereby you can get 10,000 miles for renting a car, 20,000 miles for getting a hair loss consultation, etc. Simply put, I didn’t think this promo was totally out of line for Delta. If United had published this promo, I probably would have asked what the catch was, but not with Delta.
Instead of joining the bashing bandwagon (although I am disappointed), I gotta ask the question — what was Delta thinking? I can think of a few explanations, but none of them seem plausible.
- The promo wasn’t meant to be published, but was somehow found? Not sure why they’d make it so easily accessible if that were the case.
- The promo was meant to be targetted? It seems like that would have been more clearly stated in the T&C’s?
- Delta wasn’t anticipating such a huge response for this promotion? If you offer 150% bonus miles, I’m not sure what you’re expecting!
- This was all a big joke and they wanted to see how many people they could fool? This is the only thing that makes an ounce of sense to me….
Suffice it to say that I won’t be taking the risk and going with my original plan, but will instead sit on the sideline and watch other people play this game.
