One of the reasons I was looking forward to flying PS Business last night from SFO-JFK was because of the Westin Heavenly Bedding. I had heard a lot about it, but wanted to give it a try for myself. I really couldn’t picture what it would be like, because images of 50lb. blankets come to mind when I think of Heavenly Bedding.
I was actually pleasantly surprised, and I had high expectations. The pillows and blankets are in a crème color. The pillow is just about as small as the old pillow, but has much better padding. When I first saw the blanket I was shocked by how small it was (after all, I was expecting a massive blanket), but it was better than any big blanket I’ve tried. It was light and cushiony, and really couldn’t have been better given the environment.
The flight time was five hours, and I slept for at least 80% of that. The service was top notch, with a very entertaining, if not slightly misinformed New Yorker FA. Walking through business class, a coach passenger commented to the FA “wow, I haven’t seen seats like this before,” to which the FA responded, “Yeah, since our passengers here are paying $6,000 one-way, it’s the least we can do, especially with all the Hollywood contracts.” I was just about ready to chime in with all of the recent PS “enhancements,” but I restrained myself.
Anyway, great flight, and I actually feel somewhat well rested. While they may have cut all the other service from PS, it’s still the best way to go for a redeye. Best of all there were open seats in Business, so I gave up my coveted 9C and moved to row 11 so that I wouldn’t have a seatmate.
